Past Students

Since 1990 SLOT has been working with the disadvantaged youth of our country, helping them to unlock the doors of opportunity. The success of SLOT's unique approach rests with the donors who have continued to generously fund our programmes.

To date we have directly impacted over 9000 young people and many thousands indirectly. We continue to see the results of lives changed. See some examples below.

2008

Ayanda Ndlovu went through the Four Phase Programme and there after studied a plumbing course with FET College. Eagle Plumbing Company that worked closely with FETC offered him a learnership opportunity. Presently he is running his own plumbing business.

Russel Maphumulo is working for SLOT as a receptionist. He also went through the Life Skills, Leadership and is now volunteering at SLOT. He has shown great potential.
Jabu Mokoena went through the Life Skills and Leadership Course and did voluntary work for SLOT in 2008. She was also placed by SLOT at ABI Company as a Sales Clerk for three months. She is presently employed by SLOT as a Life Skills Coordinator.
Sam Phungula has been a SLOT learner in 2008 and went through both Life Skills and Leadership Course. He did voluntary work with Nelisa Clinic that is also located at SLOT. He is now employed by DUCT as anenvironmental officer. This company helps with community river cleaning.
Nonkazimulo Mnguni, Thando Ndlovu and Nonkazimulo Mnguni are presently casual workers of the Golden Casino with the potential of being employed as full time staff.
Menzi Phungula is presently working for GPR Kitchens as a full time employee. He has learnt carpentry there. With the experiences he has gained working for this company, he has been able to start a small business on apart-time basis.
Nonkululeko Sibiya went through the Life Skills and did voluntary work for SLOT in 2008. She is presently employed by Training Force as an Administrative Officer.

2007

Bhekisisa Ntuli was a SLOT student in 2007 doing the Four Phase Programme. He is presently running his own car wash business.This has enabled him to put himself through a local FET College doing a Human Resource Management course.
Andrias Nzimande went through the Four Phase Programme with SLOT in 2007. He was first employed by SLOT as property maintenance worker. He has now been promoted to a Life Skills Co-ordinator and has shown great potential.
Phelelani Dlamini did the Four Phase Programme with SLOT in 2007. He was able to pay his way through a catering course. He is presently employed by Sakki Grill Restaurant in Pietermaritzburg.

2005

Lindelani Sibiya did his SLOT 1 in 2005. He decided to get a temporary job as a packer at Makro and while he was working was spotted by Spec Pac who approached him to work as a Sales Marketer.
Bawenile Mkhize did her SLOT 1in 2005 and is running her own business whilst studying Fashion Design at School of Fashion

2004

Nhlanhla Madlala Has been a SLOT student in 2004 and went through the Four Phase Programme. He studied the Fashion Design course with the School of Fashion. He is presently running his own fashion design business.

2003

Zinhle Mbatha did her SLOT 1 in 2003 and now works at Hlengisizwe Clinic as a Clerk and is studying a Diploma in Accounting through UNISA.

2001

Sabelo Taylor did his SLOT 1 in 2001 and in 2002 did a computer course. Then worked at Dunlop in the Mill Control Lab for 3 years. Then he applied for training in the SAP. He now works for the Nothingham Road police station.

1996

Sindi Nobetha did her SLOT 1 in 1996 and in that same year went to do a hairdressing course. She then decided to start her own salon in Howick but over the years decided that she needed more assistance and then brought on a business partner.
