Overview

School Leavers Opportunity Training (SLOT) is a registered Non Government Organization (NGO) founded in 1990 by Pauline Greene. As a Non-Profit Organization (NPO) or Charity, SLOT is dependent on donor funding.

SLOT endeavors to help unemployed out of school youth, improve their chances of employment. Since its inception some 10 000 youth have passed through SLOT with the direct employment figures being over 40%. Considering the national average is 7%, this is something we are proud of. At the very least, we believe that every youth that has been through the Life Skills phase will have had a life changing experience.

Time has shown that SLOT is among the forerunners in helping to address the unemployment crisis in South Africa.

Finance

The company finances are protected by the "Career Guidance and Training Trust" which has fundraising and tax clearance (18A) status for funds received from donors. The operational Section 21 company SLOT, is the association that does the day to day operating. Within the Trust we have an investment wing namely the Lady Usher Trust, which holds money that has been bequeathed to help with the administrative costs of SLOT.

Governance

SLOT is what might be described as the operating arm of the Career Guidance and Training Trust. SLOT is an Association incorporated under the Section 21 of the Companies Act. Essentially, what that means, is that it is a Non-Profit Organization (NPO) or Charity, and is registered under section 18A of the Income Tax Act. It has its own fundraising number. In simple terms, the Career Guidance and Training Trust raises the funds that enable SLOT to operate.
